003 - The Military

"I hate you and I never want to see you again!" I yelled as I hurled the stack of learning books into the roaring fire. Warming my hands I wondered what could lay in my future? What path shall I take? What strange wonders did this universe contain? What was that loud beeping sound?

The emergency crew extinguished the inferno that had once been my living quarters, I then suffered through their condescending lecture "If we wanted our students to have fires in their quarters, they would have fire places" before I made my way to a public terminal to check my messages.

While industry and business were of no interest to me, the prospect of joining the military division grabbed my attention immediately, as did Seville's fancy looking shades. It didn't take long for me to pack my few remaining singed possessions aboard my new Velator "Facemask II" and clumsily pilot the few jumps to my new home.

Seville's eye wear was everything I hoped it would be, I was so distracted by them I almost forgot to pay attention to his mission briefing. A small group of Serpentis pirates had been harassing miners in the local asteroid belt, it was my job to put a stop to it.

I worked for Seville for the rest of the day, rescuing kidnapped miners from floating cargo containers, retrieving stolen documents, investigating hidden star gates and tangling with a slippery Serpentis star ship captain known as Wolf, who even attempted to sway me to his side to help sling his deadly space smack.

While the offer was highly tempting, in the last few hours I had become addicted to a drug of my own...

OFFER DENIED MR WOLF.

I was rewarded handsomely for my days work, receiving several new piloting related skill books, modules to outfit my ships, even new Atron and Tristan class frigates. But I was only getting started, I had a taste for combat now. I lived for the rush of turning my opponent's ships into space dust.

I swaggered back into Seville's office, "I have been victorious" I announced to the room, placing my fists on my hips.

Seville Eyron looked up from cleaning his glasses with a beach towel "I have no more work for you." he said before returning to what he was doing.

I was stunned, I was a hero. A man of noble character, I had turned down Mr Wolfs offer of quick riches, drugs, space hoes and more than likely an abundance of explosions.. and for what?!

"Oh wait" said Seville, once again looking up "If you need work, go see the Sisters of EVE in Arnon".

"Space nuns?" I asked in surprise, "You're suggesting I work for space nuns?".

I wonder if Mr Wolf's clone would be forgiving.
